New educational materials from Youth Care Team

The Youth Care Team (YCT), part of the City’s Department of Public Health, Maternal, Child, and Family Health Division, is pleased to share their new sexual health education materials that are racially diverse and trans-affirming.

The YCT has a particular focus on meeting the needs of marginalized youth populations, especially youth of color and queer and trans youth. The YCT’s youth-led coalition, Revolution4Youth, has repeatedly expressed the importance of ensuring that the needs of the most marginalized youth are centered in any efforts to improve youth health and wellness in Philadelphia.

Through the Innovation Fund, an internal City grant opportunity funded by the Philadelphia City Fund, the YCT hired a local artist who created detailed anatomy illustrations of bodies and body parts that represent the diversity of youth in Philadelphia and feature non-white, trans, and intersex bodies. The YCT utilized these digital illustrations to create new anatomy posters, as well as informational brochures and fact sheets. These materials are being printed and disseminated to city health centers, local healthcare organizations, local youth-serving organizations, and the school district’s Student Health Services at no cost to them. The materials are also be available for digital download for free.
